Environment and Sustainability

We take responsibility

At Aspenäs Herrgård, we show consideration for both our local environment, our global environment, and for our employees and guests.

We want to be part of paving the way for a sustainable future by actively working for a green transition. This is achieved by following the stringent requirements set by the Nordic environmental label Svanen to ensure that the environmental impact of our operations is as low as possible.

We work with both long-term and immediate measures to reduce our climate footprint, and we strive to continuously improve and develop our environmental and sustainability efforts.

Aspenäs Herrgård

WE ARE A SWAN MARKED FACILITY

The Swan is the official environmental label of the Nordic countries. The label makes it easy for you as a guest or customer to choose the most environmentally friendly products and services available.

We undergo an extensive annual certification process with documentation and audits to ensure that we meet the stringent Swan criteria. Read more about the Swan Criteria here.

Environmental policy

Aspenäs Manor will continuously and purposefully work with environmental goals and strive to maintain environmental work at the facility. We will continuously work to minimize any negative impact on our environment. Environmental work will be clearly visible to our guests and employees to motivate everyone to take care of the environment.

WE STRIVE TO:

  • Train all personnel within the company's environmental work and our environment. Furthermore, to continuously train personnel to provide and update knowledge and awareness of the environment.
  • Carefully follow up on the company's annual environmental goals and annually improve the business with the help of new environmental goals.
  • Continuously inform guests, employees and suppliers about our environmental work.
  • Continue to conduct environmental work characterized by openness and continuous improvements.

Our sustainable choices

To us, sustainability means having a holistic perspective and working with sustainability in several areas within our operations. Here, we tell you about the initiatives we've taken and the measures that have been implemented.

Energy Consumption

We are actively working and taking several measures to reduce our energy consumption by optimizing electricity, lighting, heating, cooling, water, and ventilation. Examples of energy-saving measures we have implemented include: Installation of fans in our largest rooms that rotate and reuse heat.

  • Replace old equipment with new energy-efficient ones, such as low-flow faucets and toilets.
  • Installation of systems that automatically reduce energy consumption in empty premises.
  • We are replacing old lamps with LED low-energy lamps designed to draw less power.
  • Installation of presence-controlled lighting in several rooms.
  • Reduced amount of water consumption, by reducing the amount of dishes. For example, by guests not having to change drinking glasses several times a day.
  • We have performed an energy audit of all the property's technical installations and assessed, among other things, lighting installations, heating installations, ventilation systems, and cooling systems.

Restaurant and Kitchen

  • When we cook and set the table in the restaurant, we focus on sustainability by:
  • A large part of the raw materials and beverages served are organic.
  • We are working to reduce our food waste through several different initiatives, for example by measuring organic waste.
  • We serve only fish and seafood that is MSC-certified.
  • You who want to eat vegetarian can always be offered a green alternative with us.
  • We always choose raw materials according to season and when selecting raw material suppliers, we prioritize locally grown and Swedish-produced products.
  • Our goal is to utilize as much of the raw material as possible to minimize food and energy waste.
  • We have opted out of tablecloths to reduce the amount of laundry.
  • We bake and cook a large part of our food from scratch.

HOUSEKEEPING

  • In our housekeeping we take responsibility for people and the environment by:
  • We strive to use perfume-free products to wash bed linen, blankets, pillows and towels and work to offer room products that are environmentally friendly, hypoallergenic and paraben-free.
  • One of the Swan's requirements is that we keep track of the cleaning, washing and dishwashing agents we use being environmentally labeled. We also make sure not to use more products than necessary. This reduces both our impact on the environment and on the people using the chemicals.
  • Our laundry is ISO-certified and Swan-labeled.
  • When it comes to energy, we like to be frugal. Not on comfort - but on things that waste unnecessary energy. That's why, for example, we encourage our guests to use their towels more than once.

WASTE MANAGEMENT

  • We work to reduce the amount of waste, as well as to recycle as much as possible.
  • We sort our waste.
  • Paper bins are available in all premises and offices.
  • We prioritize the use of biodegradable disposable items and are phasing out plastic products. We do not use single-use plastic cups. Plastic straws and drink stirrers are to be replaced with paper or wooden ones.
  • We do not sell or serve bottled water. Our guests have the option to get still or sparkling water of very high quality directly from our water taps.
  • We are replacing all our heat candles with LED lights. The candles we purchase are made of stearin instead of paraffin or wax.

PURCHASE

  • We always make demands and explore environmentally friendly alternatives when in contact with suppliers.
  • We purchase environmentally friendly office materials to the greatest extent possible, such as notebooks and whiteboard markers.
  • All of our printed materials come from environmentally certified printers and swan-labeled paper. We also reduce the amount of printed material and make greater use of digital solutions.

TRAVEL AND TRANSPORTATION

  • We promote sustainable travel to our location by offering charging stations for electric vehicles and informing our guests about the possibility of traveling to us by public transportation.
  • We prioritize local suppliers and locally sourced raw materials to minimize transportation.
