At Aspenäs Herrgård, we show care for both our local environment, our global environment and for our employees and guests.

We want to help pave the way for a sustainable future by actively working for a green transition. We do this by following the strict requirements that the Nordic Ecolabel Swan has set for our business' impact on the environment to be as low as possible.

We work with both long-term and direct efforts to reduce our climate footprint, and we strive to continuously improve and develop our environmental and sustainability work.

We are a Nordic Ecolabelled facility

The Swan is the Nordic countries' official eco-label. The label makes it easy for you as a guest or customer to choose the most environmentally friendly products and services available.

We undergo an extensive certification process annually with documentation and controls to ensure that we meet the strict Nordic Ecolabel criteria. Read more about the Nordic Ecolabel criteria here.

Our sustainable choices

For us, sustainability means that we have a holistic perspective and that we work with sustainability in several areas within our business. Here we tell about the initiatives we have taken and the measures that have been implemented.

Power consumption

We work actively and with several measures to reduce our energy consumption by optimizing energy for electricity, lighting, heating, cooling, water and ventilation. Examples of energy-saving measures we have implemented are: Installation of fans in our largest rooms that rotate and reuse heat.

  • Replacement of old equipment with new energy efficient. For example, low-flush faucets and toilets.
  • Installation of systems that automatically reduce energy consumption in empty premises.
  • We replace old lamps with LED low-energy lamps that are designed to draw less power.
  • Installation of presence-controlled lighting in several rooms.
  • Reduced the amount of water consumption, by reducing the amount of dishes. For example, by guests not having to change drinking glasses several times a day.
  • We have made an energy diagnosis of all the property's technical installations and assessed, among other things, lighting systems, heating systems, ventilation systems and cooling systems.

Restaurant and kitchen

  • When we cook and serve in the restaurant, we put sustainability in focus by:
  • A large part of the raw materials and beverages served are organic.
  • We work to reduce our food waste through several different initiatives. For example, measurement of organic waste.
  • We only serve seafood that is MSC-labeled.
  • You who want to eat vegetarian can always be offered a green alternative with us.
  • We always choose raw materials according to the season and when choosing raw material suppliers, we reward locally grown and Swedish-produced.
  • Our goal is to use as large an amount of the raw material as possible to reduce food and energy waste.
  • We have opted out of table linen to reduce the amount of laundry.
  • We bake and cook a large part of our food from scratch.

Housekeeping

  • In our housekeeping, we take responsibility for people and the environment by:
  • We strive to use perfume-free products to wash bedding, blankets, pillows and towels and work to offer room products that are environmentally friendly, without allergens and without parabens.
  • One of the Nordic Ecolabel requirements is that we keep track of the cleaning, washing and detergents we use are eco-labeled. We also make sure not to use more products than necessary. It reduces both our impact on the environment and on the people who use the chemicals.
  • Our laundry is ISO-certified and Nordic Ecolabelled.
  • When it comes to energy, we like to skimp! Not on comfort - but on things that waste unnecessary energy. Therefore, for example, we encourage our guests to use their towel more than once.

Waste disposal

  • We work to reduce the amount of waste, and to recycle as much as possible.
  • We sort our waste at source.
  • Paper bins are available in all rooms and offices.
  • We prioritize the use of biodegradable disposable items and phase out plastic items. We do not use disposable plastic cups. Plastic straws and drinking sticks must be replaced with paper or wood.
  • We do not sell or serve bottled water. Our guests have the opportunity to get still or carbonated water of very good quality directly from our water taps.
  • We replace all our tealights with LED lights. The candles we buy are made of stearin instead of paraffin or wax.

Purchase

  • We always set requirements and investigate environmentally friendly alternatives when contacting suppliers.
  • We buy environmentally friendly office materials as much as possible - such as flipcharts and whiteboard pens.
  • All our printed matter comes from eco-labeled printing companies and Nordic Ecolabelled paper. We also reduce the amount of printed material and make greater use of digital solutions.

Travel and transport

  • We promote sustainable travel to us, by offering charging points for electric cars and telling our guests about the opportunity to travel collectively to us.
  • We reward local suppliers and locally produced raw materials to reduce transport.
